So, if you try to conserve energy by not using your air conditioner, but end up so sweaty you need extra showers, are you really any further ahead?

I think the answer is going to involve math at some point, so I'll pass on answering. My instinct says yes, given how much my electricity bill was once during a heat wave when I used the air conditioner 24/7.
My instinct is to ask, why are you taking hot showers during a heat wave? Cold showers are environmentally friendly.
Also, air conditioning is one of the single biggest users of electricity and the two will never compare.
